astray from normalcy
at the edge of everything
something took over me
suddenly, i stood behind him,
then he was gone.
The poem, haze is the imagination of the following scene:
In a void of space, there are three beings: two men and a woman. All geographical features are shown in a digital void, only made of wireframes. Two stand at the precipice of a cliff. Suddenly, a man approaches and pushes the man off the cliff.
The perspective shifts to the man, now falling. He is screaming out for help.
The perspective shifts back to the man on the cliff. He is stuck. He can't look away from the man. He feels just as afraid as him. He feels his pain. He hears him. Forever.
He tries to follow. But he can't move. He understands he's meant to share the pain of the man he killed.
~
Why would the killer feel the victim's pain and fear?
Why would the killer feel the agony forever?
In choosing to be with her, the writer abandoned the previous version of himself and left him stuck in a hellish purgatory. He remains falling. He never stops.
There is intentionally no direct mention of the woman in the poem. It's meant to be exclusively known to the writer and the woman herself.
